The Sigma Precious metal verifier is designed to test coins and bullion but generally not jewelry or scrap metals. For jewelry testing consider the Kee Gold Tester shown under " Shop" --> "Gold Testers" at the top of the page. Also consider a Sigma Kee bundle for greater versatility. The Precious Metal Verifier Pro has been developed to greatly enhance the capabilities of the original PMV. It makes four separate measurements that ensure that the coin or bar contains valid metal. We now measure surface resistivity, and the resistivity all the way through the coin at the same time. No more worries about the depth of the buried metal. We measure the thickness of the metal, even for coins in plastic holders. Also, if the weight is entered, the density can be verified to be correct by measuring coin or bar dimensions directly on the instrument. In many cases we can do this even for coins in holders. With these additional checks, you will find greatly increased security using the Precious Metal Verifier Pro.
Pro units will not test slabbed coins less than 32 mm diameter. Original Sigmas will test many slabbed coins down to 1/4 oz with the large wand.
